Airline consolidator
Airline consolidators are airfare wholesalers that book airline seats in bulk at discount rates and then resell them to travel agencies. Airlines partner with consolidators to increase sales and occupancy on less popular routes, while benefits for travel agencies include
- access to lower rates,
- ticketing power without the need to get IATA accreditation,
- usage of modern booking engines, and so on.
Private fares (also known as bulk or consolidator airfares) for blocks of seats are negotiated between airlines and consolidators, with discounts of 30-60 percent. Consolidators charge a premium on each seat and distribute this inventory to retailers (travel agencies). Travel agencies then resell the seats to travelers adding their own markups.
The leading, most reputable global consolidators are Mondee, Picasso Travel, Centrav, GTT Global, Downtown Travel, and SkyBird Travel & Tours.
