A car rental reservation system (car RRS) is a software solution that helps manage the car rental business, streamlining and automating the majority of operational workflows. Its main features are

• a car rental booking engine that helps process reservations, synchronizes availability and develop rates across distribution channels, and handles online payments;
• a fleet management module that automates such processes as telematics tracking and condition monitoring, fleet maintenance, and fuel management;
• agents’ task management that takes care of staffing, scheduling, and some internal workflows; 
• CRM or customer relationship management module; and
• reporting/analytics.

OTAs and other travel distributors can resell car rental inventory either after building an API integration or by implementing a booking engine with pre-integrated suppliers.
