Form of identity
A form of identity is an official document, such as a passport or a driver’s license, that proves an individual’s identity. It provides the necessary information to verify a person’s name, date of birth, nationality, and other details.
Forms of identity exist to
- confirm who a person is, helping to prevent fraud;
- enable authorities to keep track of individuals during border control or security checks at the airport;
- allow individuals to access rights and services like healthcare, education, and employment; and more.
Forms of identity may be physical (e.g., paper documents) or digital (e.g., digital IDs on smartphones). The document is typically issued by a government or recognized authority, such as a passport office or national registry.
