Frequent flyer number
A frequent flyer number is a unique identifier assigned to members of an airline’s loyalty or rewards program. This number allows travelers to accumulate points or miles based on the distance flown, ticket class, or expenditure on airline services. These accrued points or miles can later be redeemed for various benefits, such as free flights, upgrades, or other travel-related perks.
The frequent flyer number is received upon joining an airline’s frequent flyer program. As travelers book flights with this airline or its partners (see airline alliances), they indicate their frequent flyer number to ensure the travel activities are recorded and credited to their account.
The number helps airlines track and manage each member’s accumulated points, tier status, and other associated benefits. Over time, as members reach certain thresholds of travel or expenditure, they may attain higher program tiers.
