National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is an independent agency that investigates and determines the probable cause of transportation accidents within the United States.

The primary purpose of the NTSB is to enhance transportation safety by identifying and addressing issues, thus helping prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.

For example, after a plane crash, the NTSB dispatches investigators to the accident site to collect evidence, analyze data from flight recorders, interview witnesses, and conduct a thorough examination of the wreckage. The goal is to determine the sequence of events leading to the accident and identify contributing factors such as mechanical failures, pilot error, or air traffic control issues.
