Skiplagging

Skiplagging is a travel practice in which a traveler books a flight that has a layover but plans to get off at the layover city instead of continuing to the final destination.

Airlines often offer lower prices for flights that include layovers or connecting flights. Skiplagging exploits this strategy by identifying situations where a layover city is cheaper to reach when it’s part of a longer itinerary than when booked as a direct destination.

So, the traveler searches for a multi-leg flight (from City A to City C, with a layover in City B). Instead of reaching the final destination (City C), the traveler intends to get off at the layover city (City B).

Airlines disapprove of skiplagging and may penalize travelers by canceling their frequent flyer miles, banning future flights, or even charging fees.
