Travel management company (TMC)
A travel management company (TMC) (or corporate travel management company) is a travel agency that helps businesses manage their corporate travel. TMCs completely arrange business trips according to the organization’s travel policy. Thus, in addition to booking flights and accommodation, TMCs also organize
- airport transfer and other land transportation,
- car rentals,
- currency exchange,
- insurance,
- visas,
- leisure travel,
- venue sourcing, and other special requests.
Besides booking travel products, TMCs usually offer additional services such as travel risk management, on-trip assistance, and post-trip reporting. Some TMCs also provide their clients with convenient online self-booking tools with additional features such as flight status monitoring or expenditure reports.
TMCs typically source their inventory from GDSs, wholesalers, consolidators, or directly from travel service providers. Due to their industry expertise and access to negotiated, lower rates, TMCs help businesses save on travel expenses and improve efficiency.
Some of the major TMCs are American Express Global Business Travel (GBT), BCD Group, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, FCM Travel Solutions, Egencia, TripActions, and TravelPerk.
