TSA pre-check
TSA pre-check is a US government program by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that allows pre-approved travelers to enjoy faster security screening.
TSA pre-checks are available at over 200 airports and 90+ airlines across the US. The participating airports and airlines provide dedicated security lanes through which members of the pre-check program can pass without removing shoes, belts, or laptops.
The TSA pre-check program lasts 5 years and can be renewed. The process of becoming a member includes
- Selecting an enrollment provider (IDEMIA, Telos, CLEAR, etc.) and submitting an online application;
- Visit an enrollment center for a background check; and
- Once approved, members receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN), which allows them to access TSA pre-check lanes at security checkpoints.
Many loyalty programs and credit card providers offer their members TSA pre-check enrollment as a perk.
