Workation

Workation (created by combining the words work and vacation) is a recent travel trend that means working in a usual mode while traveling long-term. It became popular with the growing transition to remote forms of work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Such “work away from work” is believed to increase the employee’s productivity due to getting a break from routine and destressing while traveling to new places and switching the work environment.

A workation is similar to digital nomadism that also entails working online (typically in the IT industry) from anywhere in the world. 

Workation is also sometimes used interchangeably with the term bleisure but it’s not quite the same. Bleisure involves traveling for business and adding some leisure activities to such a trip, so it’s usually shorter than a workation and not as flexible in choosing travel dates and destinations.
